Living with anticoagulants in Denmark

Politicians have to be informed about the situation of anticoagulated patients

Blodprop- og AK-Patientforeningen in Denmark are still a very private
organised patient organisation with approx. 500 members

On our General assembly only around 50 members turn up, after the meeting we
got Joern Dalsgaard, doctor at the anticoagulation centre on Gentofte
Hospital in Copenhagen, to speak about the latest progress within
anticoagulation treatment.
Blodprop- og AK-Patientforeningen work are to collect and inform the patient
as well the politicians about the situation for more than 50,000 patient who
are in treatment against the risk for blood clottings.
We are having evenings for the patients where we invite Doctors or other
people like dietetics speaking about food others about pregnancy.
These evenings are quiet well visited. Apart from that we still make 3-4
magazines where we try to inform patient and patients are telling their
stories about illness and there experience with AC-Treatment
Most of our efforts have been on getting known as a Patient Organisation. We
have the pleasure that we now have got a new contact to a new
anticoagulation centre. Here we have been invited to organise an evening for
patients in that region, who are in medical treatment and in self control.
Also we have spent a lot of time trying to get the press interested. We have
written various articles, stories and cases, but there is not blood enough
to be of interest for the news papers
In Denmark they have been changes in the health system. Many small to regions have been reduced to only five bigger regions. At this moment all regions are discussing how many
hospitals want to be more flexible and more by specialising themselves
to treat different kind of diseases.
